Sophie and Val question where they are in their careers and reach out to an old friend. Jesse and Meredith make a tour announcement video.

Sophie and Valentina become insecure when they look at Ellen, who became a major success not soon after her big move to New York. They decide to make themselves feel better by meeting up with their friend from college, better known as "Pathetic Deirdre". She earned her nickname because of her horrible life. They track down Deirdre and learn that she published a self-help book. However, in the book, she mentions Sophie and Valentina, describing them as toxic. Valentina and Sophie are shocked. Deirdre explains that she just wrote that to make herself feel better and to give her story more of an edge.
They start to argue. Deirdre's fans realize she is still toxic and turn on her.
Meanwhile, Meredith and Jesse decide to record a video to promote her new tour. Meredith talks about herself and lies about how she and Jesse got back together. Jesse starts to question things with Meredith after this. Sid tells Jesse Meredith doesn't actually love him. This upsets Jesse but he leaves for the tour. He tells Sid to only show up if he's going to be more supportive.
Charlie sends Courtney a gift basket. She takes it as a sign that he his into her, but really Charlie is seeing other women. They go on a second date but soon Courtney finds out the truth about Charlie's dating life.
Ellen has a horrible first day at work. She gets locked in a supply closet and crashes through the ceiling into a meeting room.
