Ellen suspects something is up with Rachel. She and Sid do a stakeout. Sophie tracks an upset Jesse down after he wasn't invited to a coworker's birthday party.

Recap

At the bar, the group, including Rachel, notice Jesse's coworkers partying without him. They find out his coworkers don't like him.

Jesse departs, citing prior plans. Rachel also leaves, but is vague about where she's going. Suspicions arise that she might be involved in an affair, prompting Ellen, Sid, and Sophie to trail her to New Jersey.

Sophie splits from the group upon spotting Jesse and follows him to a bar, where she witnesses him singing dreadful song parodies about his coworkers. Sid and Ellen, on the other hand, follow Rachel and see her searching for a new apartment. Overhearing her conversation with the realtor, they discover her desire for distance from Ellen. When they are caught, Rachel confronts Ellen, explaining that their relationship feels suffocating, leading to a breakup.

Sophie confronts Jesse, and they both return to the bar, where Jesse apologizes and allows his coworkers to express their grievances. Eventually, they accept him back into their group, and Sophie leaves as Jesse engages in conversation with a new teacher.

Meanwhile, Charlie and Valentina embark on a pre-booked restaurant date from their time as a couple but end up leaving due to its excessive romantic ambiance. When leaving, Charlie offers comfort to a weeping child and explains to Valentina that he still doesn't desire children, leading them to realize that their conflicting views on this matter are the reason they must part ways.

• Val and Charlie decide to break up because they have not found a compromise on the issue of children. However, in Okay Fine, It's A Hurricane, Future Sophie reveals that in Future Charlie will change his mind and he and Val will have a son together.
