Season 9 SUCKS!
WHAT A FUCKING STUPID SEASON!
The entire season is about the wedding, get sick off the stupid thank you Linus! Then suddenly they break up, you see a glimpse how Ted and Tracy met, than tracy is dead, no explanation how this happens at all, no the writers used the time to see stupid flash backs! Then Ted goes back to Robin. Hello!! 8 seasons I was wondering WHO is the mother, that is why the show called How I met your mother and then you see 10 minutes how the met! Jesus guys what a terrible season!! Un..wait for it.. fucking believable!
Don't you mean seasons 1-9 suck?

I totaly agree, they past 8seasons looking fo this woman and when they found her, they make one season and she dies in the end!!
And if you don't like HIMYM, don't go on HIMYM fan page
It's 2016 now, and I just wrapped up the last episode on Netflix ....reading this thread now, I completely agree with everyone that said Season 9 sucks, and all the reasons why it sucks .....how I wished they dedicated this season to all of how Ted meets Tracy and how he falls in love with her, and how the gang gets to fall in love with her too.....give the viewes to actually enjoy Ted's love story for once!!!!!! But instead, they dedicated the whole damn season to R&B's wedding ....and Ted & Tracy's love story is shown in mere bits n pieces ...how in the world did that make sense .....it just wasn't RIGHT!
Ugh... the whole show is such an obvious rip-off of Friends, albeit with less funny, less likable characters. They even ripped off the contrived ending, where Rachel and Ross wind up together at the last minute. Friends knew how to do weddings, though. Dragging Robin and Barney's wedding over a whole season (only to have them divorce in the end...what?) was disastrously dull, and the finale was the worst I've ever seen on any show. Carter and Bays are rumored to have a new show premiering this fall, and I want no parts of it. Surprised anyone would pay them to write as much as a grocery list.
Just binge-watched HIMYM again. I feel like I have a love story with this series. When I "met" it, I loved it instantly. I decided to follow it, and I loved the journey... up until season 9. Season 9 was so bad, I just had to break up with the entire series. My point is, season 9 really RUINED the series for me. I decided to give it another chance... it still ended up badly.
I'm not going to argue about what went wrong in this season, many people already did in this very thread. The RADICAL change of pace, the stupid amount of FILLER stories (you can cut out Daphné's character COMPLETELY, it doesn't change a thing to the story), the fact that they spend an ENTIRE SEASON on a wedding that blows up LITERALLY TEN MINUTES LATER (in real time)... there's just nothing more to say. Season 9 is undeniably bad, it fails at everything, even the comedy isn't that good... The only good thing going for it is the few good ideas. Tracy's death, the divorce, the flashforwards, those are great ideas... but very badly implemented.
The worst part of this season is, it's part of the entire story so you can't skip it. That's why it really ruins the series for me. Take a series like House M.D for example. I love this series, except the last two seasons. But it's alright, because the previous seasons are unscathed.
In the case of HIMYM... EVERYTHING leads to season 9. This season is really the climax of the story, it's really the end of the road, the point we've been trying to reach for years... and it sucks.
It just sucks.
I never had a problem with the ending, despite it not doing what I wanted it to do. It never ruined the show for me at all, ever. I love the show far too much for that, and I didn't even see the ending as much of a problem as everyone else did. Knowing now that the point of it was to show that something awesome doesn't stop being awesome, just because it ended badly makes it even nicer, as it is a good message, regardless of whether we think they should have done the message.
Season 9 seemed bad when I first watched, or at least not as good, but upon my second watch it looked better, and I like it now.

The only real comparisons are that some of the jokes can match up, which in some places I'm sure where done deliberately (at least one of the writers is a fan of Friends), but that is not ripping off, that is taking inspiration. In addition some of the similar jokes may have been coincidences, but at the end of the day it's not a rip off - by a long shot.
Comparing the ending, which happened very differently, with two groups of completely different characters (Ted and Ross have the geeky/knowledgeable thing going on, but even that is approached differently - I can't see anything that makes Robin and Rachel similar personality wise) shows that HIMYM is nowhere near being a Friends rip off, because it is another example of comparing something that wasn't even similar. Seriously, I've seen the fact that Joey and Barney both went on gameshows being used as "evidence" that this is a rip off, even though not only are the two characters different, but the entire gameshow storylines were done completely differently - and going on a gameshow is (from what I can see) a typical sitcom storyline (or even a TV show storyline) anyway.
Again, respect if you prefer Friends, but How I Met Your Mother is far too different to be a rip off, even if parts of it was clearly inspired (which is allowed.)
