Tom is the husband of James Stinson and brother in law of Barney Stinson.

In The Rebound Girl, Ted and Barney adopted a baby and named her Hurricane. James and Tom arrive to Marshall and Lily's house, with their son Eli and tells them that the baby is actually their newly adopted daughter, Sadie, whom Barney was babysitting.
